Come and join our friendly learning community!

There are three different class levels: beginner, intermediate, and advanced.

Every English learner will find something right for them. Our teaching team includes teachers with TESOL qualifications, multi-lingual teachers, and teachers who have spoken English all their lives. All are passionate about making English come alive through creative, student-focused lessons.

An easy English Bible study runs after conversation classes. This is an opportunity to learn English and find out about Jesus and Christianity.

  • Background

English classes have been held at Taringa Baptist Church since 1999. Over the years, we’ve taught 1000s of students, including migrants, refugees, working holidaymakers, guardians, students, spouses of students, visiting lecturers, and au pairs.

Students have come from many countries, including China, Korea, and more.

In our conversation classes, we focus on speaking everyday English through interaction and fun. Classes are also a great place to make new friends.

Our Teachers

  • Our Team

Our teaching team includes teachers with TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) qualifications, multilingual teachers, and teachers who have spoken English all their lives.

All are passionate about making English come alive through creative, student-focused lessons.

Some of our teachers have gone on to teach English at TAFE (Technical and Further Education), language schools, and overseas.

  • TESOL Teaching

We partner with Intercultural Training Australia which continually trains and equips teachers in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages).

This has the great advantage of providing new trainees and graduates with fresh ideas and enthusiasm every year.

As a teaching and training venue, we can offer these classes free of charge to the community. Small donations assist us in providing morning tea for all students.

Teacher Training

We are pleased to recommend Intercultural Training Australia (ITA) as our preferred provider for TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) teacher training.

ITA offers high-quality, practical training for those interested in teaching English, whether locally or overseas. Their courses are designed to equip teachers with the skills and confidence needed to effectively support English learners in a variety of settings.

TESOL training courses are offered each year, and we encourage anyone interested in becoming a teacher to explore this excellent opportunity. For more information, visit Intercultural Training Australia.

  • 10:40 am – English Conversation Class
  • 11:30 am – Easy English Bible Class

The Easy English Bible classes were created to help students learn English and explore who Jesus is. These classes are designed for intermediate and advanced English learners.

Parking

Our English classes are easy to get to, we’re just a short walk from Taringa train station and Bus Stop 19 on Moggill Road.

The classes take place at Taringa Baptist Church, but don’t worry, you don’t need to be part of the church to join in. If you’re driving, there’s a small car park behind the building. Parking can fill up quickly, so it’s a good idea to come a bit early if you’re bringing a car.

Teaching Materials

  • Free English Bible Studies

We are pleased to offer a free resource for anyone who would like to teach the Bible in English. This book contains a set of 49 Bible studies, based mainly on the Gospels, specifically designed for intermediate and advanced English learners.

Also included are special Christmas and Easter series.

Each study is crafted to help students improve their English while discovering who Jesus is, learning to trust in Him, and being encouraged to follow Him. Whether you’re a teacher, small group leader, or missionary, you’re welcome to use and share these studies freely to help others grow in both language and faith.
